[PA] Assault charges dropped against Pittsburgh Police Officer Anthony Charles

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office dropped an assault charge Thursday against a Pittsburgh police officer who had been in a fight with his ex-girlfriend after they attended the city's police ball. Based on witness interviews, "it was our conclusion that she was the aggressor in the confrontation," said Mike Manko, spokesman for the District Attorney's Office. "That's the reason for withdrawing the charges against him." Anthony L. Charles, 48, of Homewood declined comment after appearing in Pittsburgh Municipal Court. The simple assault case against his ex-girlfriend, Tracey R. Williamson, 44, of Lincoln-Lemington, who is a retired Pittsburgh officer, was postponed. Charles' attorney, Joseph Williams, pointed to a police report that said Williamson was acting intoxicated -- although officers did not smell alcohol. "He tried to get away," Williams said. "She was the aggressor." Williamson said: "Those charges will be refiled. Trust me." She did not elaborate...
