[OH] Officer Flynn fired AGAIN & prison sentence suspended

CUYAHOGA FALLS: The city has fired a police officer who last month pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge. Patrolman Ralph E. Flynn III, a Cuyahoga Falls police officer since 1997, was sentenced to six months in prison by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Mary Spicer on May 5, but the prison term was suspended and Flynn was placed on probation for one year. "We felt it appropriate to terminate him," Cuyahoga Falls Law Director Virgil Arrington said of the firing Tuesday. The termination marked the second time Flynn has been fired by the city of Cuyahoga Falls. In 2005, he lost his job after being charged with domestic violence in Barberton Municipal Court. He ultimately pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and got his job back when the police union won a grievance in that case. Michael Piotrowski, general counsel for the Fraternal Order of Police Ohio Labor Council, Inc., said the union, which represents Flynn, "will pursue a grievance regarding his termination" and will demand arbitration. Flynn, 37, was arrested by Norton police on June 8 after two of his three children, 10 and 12 at the time, were taken to Akron Children's Hospital by their mother, Flynn's former wife. According to a police report, the girls were taken to the hospital for injuries they said their father inflicted during a dispute at his Norton home. He agreed to the no contest plea in exchange for the dismissal of two counts of domestic violence and a felony charge of endangering children in that incident...
