[Excerpts] An off-duty Lee County sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave Thursday night after investigators say she fatally shot her estranged husband at their home in Broadway. Harnett County deputies responded to the home of Michael and Angie Clark at 8 Bee Hive Lane at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a shooting there. Michael Clark, 44, died at the scene... Michael Clark's father said that the couple had a rocky marriage which involved "physical abuse on both ends... We don’t know if it was a justified shooting or an unjustified shooting... I hate my son is gone"... According to court records, Angie Clark took out a domestic violence protective order against her husband in 2001 and last December. In the most recent case, she said her husband shot at her car. She also claimed he threatened to "kill all of you" before paying child support. In January, however, she voluntarily dismissed the case. Jerome Clark said the two had been married about six years and had five children. They were separated and living separately, he added. "He loved his kids very dearly... Lee County Sheriff Tracy Carter said he knew the couple had been separated, but was not aware of any serious problems. "And she's done a good job. [Excerpts] An off-duty Lee County deputy who killed her husband might may have been the victim of an abusive relationship... According to news reports, Mrs. Clark and her husband had been estranged, but were working on repairing their relationship. The reports said court records showed Mrs. Clark had filed two domestic violence protection orders against Mr. Clark in the past eight years. The report said an order filed in 2001 was involuntarily dismissed and another order alleging three incidents was dismissed voluntarily in February by Mrs. Clark. Lee County Sheriff's Chief Randall Butler said Mrs. Clark had been a good deputy... Chief Butler said Mrs. Clark was on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation. [Full article here]

[Excerpts] A Lee County deputy sheriff shot and killed her estranged husband this week in their home, Harnett County lawmen said Thursday. A family member says the deceased husband had been trying recently to reconcile with his wife. No one has been charged in the shooting. Angie Clark, who is 40, was off duty at the time of the shooting, which happened about 10:22 p.m. Wednesday. Her husband, Michael, who was 44, was pronounced dead in their home at 8 Beehive Lane in Broadway. The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office is investigating... The couple had been separated, [Lee County Sheriff Tracy] Carter said. “I know there have been some domestic issues but definitely nothing this serious,” he said... The marriage has been rocky, court records show. Angie Clark had filed two domestic violence orders over the past eight years. An order filed in 2001 was involuntarily dismissed. Information about that order was not available Thursday. She filed a second order in December alleging that Michael Clark threatened to kill her on three occasions last fall. In the first instance, Michael Clark came to her home in October and shot the vehicle in her yard and threatened her verbally, records show. In the second instance, she and one of her daughters were riding with her husband to Smithfield in November when they began arguing about child support. He threatened to kill her and the children, according to court records. And in December, he threatened her following a court proceeding, records show. The order alleging the three incidents was dismissed voluntarily in February, which means Angie Clark dropped it. Michael and Angie Clark have five children. Their oldest is 24, said Jerome Clark. He lives next door to his son. The elder Clark was at a friend’s home down the street watching television when the shooting happened. He looked out the window and saw fire trucks near the street... Detectives told him that there was broken glass inside the home and that it looked like self-defense, Jerome Clark said... He said that Michael Clark was a good son who looked out for his family. “It is going to take me a long time to get over this,” he said. “I will never completely get over it, because he was my son”...
