[NM] Sheriff's Sgt. Chris LaBate arrested after allegedly using (tactical) wristlock on girlfriend

[Excerpts] A Valencia County Sheriff's sergeant has been arrested on a charge of battery against a household member for allegedly placing a wrist lock on his girlfriend and injuring her during an argument. Christopher LaBate, 44, has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an internal affairs investigation, said Valencia County Sheriff Louis Burkhard... Officers responded to LaBate's residence on the 40 block of Monica Road in Peralta in regard to a domestic disturbance, They encountered LaBate in the front yard, and he appeared to be intoxicated... LaBate, whose left cheek showed redness and swelling, told officers that he and his girlfriend, [BG], 44, had been in a fight when she struck him in the face twice. He then placed her in a wrist lock to prevent her from throwing any more punches, the report said. The officers found [BG] inside the house... When LeBate asked her to go to Home Depot with him, she declined, the report said. She said he then placed her in a wrist lock and attempted to pull her off a bed where she had been sleeping... She told officers she then struck him in the face twice to get him to stop, the report said. Officers observed that she had some redness and a scratch on her wrist. LeBate was booked into Valencia County Detention Center and then released on his own recognizance. [Full article here]
